I went to the local Trek dealer to try and decide between the FX2 and FX3. It’s my first time buying a bike and I didn’t notice any difference in ride between the two except for the gearing. The FX2 seemed to need some adjustment, there was quite a delay in changing gears and there was sometimes a decent shock/jolt when the gear change finally happened. I told the rep that it probably needed some adjustment and he said perhaps but then was adamant that it was mostly because of the inferior gearset/drivetrain when compared to the FX3. Both had Shimano so there wasn’t a supply chain substitution in this case.

What do you think? Can a properly adjusted FX2 shift as smoothly as the FX3?
