Hi, I ride a Canyon Endurace CF 7 with the CP0030 Aerocockpit (integrated handlebar/stem) and Shimano 105 Di2 (RD-7150/FD-7150).

Before leaving for a 2–3 week trip, I gave my bike a thorough wash, with the bike upside down. Since then, the bike has been stored indoors in my living room, dry and unused the entire time.

When I recently brought it back out:
• The left Di2 lever (front derailleur) had one button that was completely dead
• The other button on the same shifter still worked
• Battery is fine, and the rest of the Di2 system works as expected

I opened the stem cap/top cap for the first time – and a significant amount of water came pouring out from inside the cockpit. So, despite the dry indoor storage, it seems water had been trapped inside the integrated cockpit since the wash.

I’ve now removed the top cap and set the bike aside to let everything dry properly, but I don’t yet know if the button will start working again afterward. Or if its possible that the trapped water puls be the reason.

Has anyone else experienced water pooling inside the CP0030 cockpit?

And for anyone with Di2 experience: can water exposure cause progressive switch failure, or does it usually just short and stay dead?

Would love to hear from others who’ve had similar issues – especially regarding the shifter or how Canyon responded if you had to contact support.

Thanks in advance!

  1. Water exposure shouldn’t kill your Di2 and there is no causal relationship between your handlebar and the shifter as the 105 di2 isn’t wired in any way. More likely you had massive water ingress and I would guess you used some kind of pressure washer, not just a wet rag, which could’ve penetrated the electronics as that’s not really what it was designed for, especially if it went in from the bottom, which wouldn’t happen even in heavy rain if the bike was the right side up.

I cleaned my di2 105 many times in the shower and never had this issue.

Maybe just maybe you can fix it by letting your levers sit in isopropyl alcohol for a while to loosen mineral residue left from the water (which deteriorates electronic circuits) I don’t know if that would damage seals on the other hand.

The voltage is too low to cause any permanent damage. Wait a few more days to dry out. Replace the coin cell batteries in the shifter. Try again and report back.

Also don’t wash your bike like that again.

Ignore the other poster about soaking in alcohol. Don’t do that.

  3. Download the etube app from Shimano and look if the shifter is still paired to your system. Like others said, the di2 system is pretty [waterproof](https://youtu.be/n91tFafLouQ?si=U_KV4U1ZNiX2In2B), the connection between the shifter and the derailleurs is wireless and only the brake hoses are connected to the shifterbody. Good luck with your bike, I don’t think you have done permanent damage.
