Recently took my first multi-day trip, originally 430mi but cut short to 330mi with 100mi of hitching a ride to catch up from weather delays.

So I was pretty well prepared for all but the 23mph headwinds and severe thunderstorms that followed. I was only able to make it half of my planned distance that day and didn't fully have a plan or idea of local resources.

So, in the future I'm thinking that once I have my route planned, that I will scout for campsites every 30-40 miles along the route, and then decide while en route what works best for the weather.

Also I'm going to rethink the whole build philosophy of 'Aero be damned' 😅

  1. I agree you should definitely be more aero, but I don’t care who you are, 23 mile per an hour headwinds are always an ouch, congrats on your trip!

It is always good to have a bailout point if possible. You can never completely plan for the weather.

  3. Campsites or hotels every 30-40 miles is ideal, but not always possible when you tour in more remote areas.

Yeah, turns out aero matters a lot even if the plan is going slow lol.

And for me, a big part of touring is rolling with the punches, and not being afraid of going a bit feral. Bad weather is a good excuse to sleep in some weird places
