In this video, I take my Brompton G Line on a snow-covered adventure across the Sierra de Guadarrama, from Cercedilla to Segovia via the historic La Fuenfría pass. It’s a demanding route through the heart of the mountains, with challenging climbs, icy trails, and unforgettable views. Riding a folding bike in these conditions might sound crazy, but the Brompton handled it surprisingly well.
Join me as I test the limits of my setup and experience one of Spain’s most beautiful winter cycling routes.

🚴‍♂️ Route: Cercedilla – Puerto de la Fuenfría – Segovia
📍 Distance: approx. 45 km
🌨️ Conditions: snow, ice, cold weather
⚙️ Setup: Brompton G Line with 39T chainring, winter tires, minimal gear

Would you ride this in the snow?

welcome to Bronto Mike Adventures i am Fernando a traveler on two wheels exploring hiding roots steep climbs and quiet roads with my trusty Bronto Gine today I’m taking you across the Sierra de Guarama from the Federia to Segoia through one of the most historic and passes in the central Spain Laria we are in Theodia about 60 km from Madrid i took the early train this morning to make the most of the good weather and maybe catch the last bit of snow before summer takes over is a small mountain town and a starting point of a long climb to the fria us the first few kilometers are always a bit tough it’s still early and my legs need some time to wake up at the beginning I have to share the road with cars this is a popular area for hiking especially being so close to Madrid but soon I will leave the traffic behind and head into quieter trails yeah finally after uh weeks of rain and bad weather in Spain I managed to find the gap and start cycling again with my Bronton Gine uh today I am uh in Tadelia uh climbing Porto Fria which a is a passage between uh the province of Madrid and the province of uh Segoia it’s a very interesting route a lot of history a lot of uh yeah climbing it’s not the the worst or the most difficult climbing in Madrid but uh still very challenging um with a bike the Fria pass has been used since Roman times it was part of an ancient road that connected Segoia with the southern plains of Madrid over the centuries it became a key route for merchants pilgrims and even royal messenger crossing the Sierra de Guadama so every time I ride through here I’m literally following the track of history as I get higher the road start to ease up a bit with gentle slopes that let me catch my breath the weather is perfect today clear skies cool air ideal for this kind of route i’m riding through endless mountains surrounded by pine forest as far as the eye can see i am now entering the final stretch of the climb and I starting to see the first patches of snow along the trail i’m not really sure how much snow I will find at the top but that’s part of the adventure today i am almost at the top now and I can feel the air growing thinner the snow begins to appear on the road and being this close to the mountains brings a deep sense of fulfillment the silence the cold and the vastness of the landscape embrace me completely is a raw peaceful connection with nature just before reaching the summit yeah I am uh already past the Afria uh now the in the descent there is a lot of snow as you can see and yeah I can ride the bike so I had to just push the bike it’s my first experience in the snow uh at the beginning I could uh ride when it was around 2 cm of uh snow but now it’s around I don’t know maybe five six seven difficult to know but um yeah now I had to push I think there is a few kilometers uh yeah think there are a few kilometers I need to push the bike downhill that is not so bad and maybe half an hour or something like this i start walking through the snow my feet well protected by my winter boots i enjoy the soft crunch of each step as I push my bike forward there is something peaceful about this moment and I am looking forward to riding through the snow ahead now I can feel I have crossed to the northern side of the mountains the sky is turning cloudy and there is much more snow than during the climb on the southern slope the atmosphere has changed it’s colder now slowly I am getting used to riding in the snow i am surprised by how stable the bike feels it gives me confidence and I realize I can trust this bike more than I expected heat up here heat heat as the altitude drops I gradually leave the snow behind back on tarmac my speed increases and everything feels smooth again heat heat heat heat i am now in the final kilometers of this long descent my speed increases and I enjoy the wind as it blows through these mountains and trees i have definitely adapted my Bronton Gline to suit my needs i reduced the chain ring to 39 ft and I made a few other small tweaks to help me climb mountains like this heat up here heat heat heat heat back on the road the cycle day now takes me straight to Segoia the snow and the mountains are behind me and I’m really grateful I decided to do this i was hesitant at first and sure if this route was too much but now I feel like I have overcome it and it gives me motivation for new adventures ahead if I had a boat I would sail out take every brother and sister of mine row in the sunshine and sleep when it’s dark hoping to find somewhere we can call but it’s black yeah it’s black oh the waterers black cuz it’s black some black black water if I had some time I’d be biting it well my house is on fire there’s no one left to tell just take what is given the doors have been sealed just breathe in the poison god is real i am now entering Segoia the aqueduct rises in the distance a perfect way to end this ride after the effort the cold and the snow arriving here feels like a reward i’m already thinking about the next food thanks for watching and if you enjoy the ride don’t forget to like and subscribe for more micro adventures
