Upgrading My Honda’s Heated Grips | Oxford Pro Sport Grip Install
In this video, I recap on my installation in replacing my worn OEM Honda heated grips with the Oxford Pro Sport grips—a modern upgrade featuring integrated controls right on grip, eliminating the need for the original fairing-mounted switch.
With the factory grip glue failing, I took the opportunity to tidy things up properly. I also replaced the pocket cowl to avoid leaving a hole behind—surprisingly just £33 from my local Honda dealer! Installation was straightforward: fairing off, six screws, and don’t forget to transfer the bushes for the hinges.
It wasn’t all smooth sailing, though. I share exactly where I hit snags during the install, so you’ll know what to expect if you’re doing the same upgrade.

welcome back YouTube Right heated grips update Now number one need to apologize I do not have an installation video I have footage but yeah I wasn’t overly happy with it So uh what I might do is just take a a number of screen grabs from that and I might throw them up into a um community post or something like that Right So but we’ll do something right so how did I get on in the installation process well it was fairly interesting Um I learned a few things made some mistakes Uh I’m going to give you the rundown on this Right So battery this side Right On the instructions it does say connect it to the battery Do not connect it to a lightning circuit Right Per the Hannes manual and the wiring diagram for the nine pin connector where the quartet harness sits it’s all lightning circuits right so uh connected to the battery The cables long enough right um it comes with a couple of copper ring end connectors to go on the battery terminals Simple right so connected it here Runs across the wiring loom that runs across the top of the secondary tank Um so it’s all zip tied to that Then it runs along with the frame and the main wiring loom Goes behind this bit of frame here with the main loom Follows it up and I just poked it through Um it went through it straight forward Um no problems at all Um and then up at the front Um it kind of stops just down here Right So I’ve got the wiring for the throttle position Now the throttle side goes down down here Goes around the front of the headstock the frame just underneath the the ignition wiring Um and then down here to a connector right so I can connect at it there So straightforward right um there’s lots of videos on YouTube you know connecting it all up It is couple of weatherproof seal connectors Just tighten them up Job done In terms of actual installation process for the grips themselves I cleaned up the throttle tube and the bar on this side Use the included superlue Now it goes off super quick right i just about made this grip up the tube because it’s quite a tight fit twisting it back and forth kind of getting stopped But the glue went off just as I hit the switch block and I wasn’t quite around in the position I might liked for the button The Oxford um actually you might see that here Right in this position it’s only a few millimeters off I’d like to be you know three mil further up but it’s close enough Right It’s close enough So in terms of the throttle side now right less than peeps that throttle tube is quite thick Um I actually did trim off a couple of millimeters of it Right So um and it is quite a thick tube Trying to send that down to slide this on was going to be challenging Right So having confidently got this one on right with a bit of twistage right i said about trying to do it on here I knew it was a bit tight It went on a little bit then it got a bit tighter So I give it a bit of force right and I got it all the way up there but it ain’t coming off again And I didn’t glue it But it doesn’t move But what it does is click slightly Um let me see if I can um if you can hear that That little click sound is the rubber itself I think as I gave it some force and twisting it on it’s kind of detached a little bit from the heating element It was inside So I’m going to have to buy a new one And I’m gonna have to buy a tube I’m hoping an aftermarket one will be a bit thinner than you know good old Honda Right So um here’s what it is right i’m not going to be significantly worse off considering I got these at a bargain price Instead of paying the 200 I paid about 120 Right so another 70 quid for another grip We will do at some point I’m not going to rush out to do it It does not slip It does not slip at all Just got this little I can feel it when I’m twisting it now Oh my gloves are on I can’t feel it So that’s that So let me give you a quick demo of the lights Hopefully you can see this Right Ignition on Press and hold We should get a red light There we go Hold for 3 seconds Comes on The red light’s gone off because the B the engine is not running This is now battery saver mode now telling me that it’s going to shut itself off and this will stop There we go Stop flashing Right So otherwise it’s red blue and white Red is hot Blue is medium White is a bit cooler Right Um that is it Right You know it’s the hardest part was this really was was hard Um and one final comment Right So hopefully I say I’ve got about an 8 mil gap between the end of the grip and the the bar end weight Now originally with the genuine ones we had about a 3 mil gap right so um it didn’t go right to the end either right so I’m not entirely happy the way this looks but if I hadn’t had to have bought another one of these I wouldn’t necessarily have cared right but I’m going to have to buy a new one Um I well I could go the whole Hog one right and for another I think they’re on offer still and 138 and back in stock for the adventure version which is longer So but we’ll see Right Um that’s it for today I’ll catch you next time
