[Music] the mythical Monvon 2 stands as one of the most grueling climbs the Pelaton faces thanks to its sheer length punishing elevation and relentless winds the mountain has hosted some of the sport’s most legendary battles and was the setting for Alberto Conidor to secure his second Tour to France victory back in 2009 [Applause] so who better to guide us through the summit finish of stage 16 in this year’s tour than El Pistolero [Music] we’re at the foot of Monontto the Baron Mountain 15.7 km with an 8.8% average gradient but watch out because the preceding 7 to 8 km are tough as the Pelaton approaches the climb wind could also be an important factor i remember there have been times in the Doflane or the tour to France where even before starting the official climb I’ve been at 180 190 beats per minute but the key part of the stage will be the actual climb let’s take a look at these 15.7 km let’s go [Music] once you go past the official start of the climb sign you feel the gradients immediately 9 10% maintained constantly it’s also a complicated climb because there aren’t a large amount of turns so it can be very psychological as you can see yourself getting dropped by the group bit by bit the first 8 km are brutal [Applause] [Applause] [Music] come on come on ali as I’m going up the climb I can’t forget 2009 when on the criterium dud I averaged a heart rate of 197 i had just arrived from a training camp and didn’t want to be in perfect shape yet as the tour was my focus however five weeks later we climbed Monontto on the tour as well and this time it felt like a totally different climb there’s such a big difference being in acceptable shape and being in perfect shape we are approaching a key point of the climb Shalet Reina it marks the end of the woodland area and the start of the open windy zone if up until this point you’ve managed to withstand the attacks of your rivals and then in the open section you’re able to latch onto somebody’s wheel you might just make it through the day you can see it’s completely different terrain the road surface is better it’s easier to pedal and the gradients are not as tough but there is one problem still and it’s the wind yes finally we’re at the top of Monontto with its legendary antenna an antenna that riders see from afar and yet it feels like it never gets any closer after those toough ramps in the first section and then the final part this is a climb where real differences can be made and a climb that is different to everything else [Applause]

  1. Bet 90% of those riders don’t know who he is, unless you told them. “What a douche sprinting by us, who he thinks he is?! Go race for reals!!!” 😅😂

  2. way the go TNT sports. now Chuck and company are gone and we'll have to watch NBA elsewhere but you really stepped up with things like this and that amazing coverage of Roland Garros with Adam leading the team and Andre joining. keep up the great work and hopefully introduce more sports eventually!!! side note who thinks stage 16 Bedoin to Ventoux climb record will be set?

  3. Yeh yeh Allez, Allez!
Just what you want to hear from anyone even a cycling legend as he pisses past you doing a piece to camera😂😂
    Not!
I did the challenge going up it 3 times in 12 hours Les Cingles de Mont Ventoux.
For an average rider it’s about survival & pacing yourself. Those giving it large on the first ascent were a lot more subdued by the 3rd time.
One key factor is the weather. The temperature changes, fog, wind, ice, rain, heat- you can literally get everything thrown at you in the 12 hrs even in the middle of summer. Each ascent can be totally different.
The worst part for me was descending in thunderstorm drenched through and freezing so I couldn’t feel my hands or my feet with the road surface like ice. Very sketchy. I was separated from my group and had to go into the red at the bottom to try & warm up again which gave me excruciating heat burn in my feet & hands. 😮

  4. Does he eat the beef before or during the climb? TNT using a disgraced rider, who was stripped of his TdF silverware because of cheating and refusing to take his punishment, to promote the TdF, is pretty disgusting and disrespectful to clean riders.
