Just got this Cannondale F2000 bike given to me by one of these supervisors at my job who no longer rides. Is this a good find? I know it's older but my wife and I have been looking for bikes recently and as expensive as bikes are these days this is definitely a blessing even if it is older. Sorry if this is a dumb post I literally don't know anything about bicycling. I haven't rode a bike since I was in high school and even then it was freestyle BMX using haro bikes LOL

  1. Awesome bike. Looks like it needs a bit of cleaning and maintenance but it is really good.

By today’s standards, I wouldn’t say it’s a “good” bike… that being said, any free bike is a good find!

Assuming you’re riding this very casually, it’ll be just fine. Enjoy!

  3. Chain looks a bit manky and handlebar doesn’t look straight, fix those and send it.

This was a $2000 bike when it was brand new. It’s still an awesome bike today.

  5. Well it definitely seems like I got a good find based off just your replies. Is there anything I should look out for before I replace the inner tubes and start riding? Looks like it says head shock fatty for the shocks, are those hard to get rebuilt or fixed or should I say expensive? I would like to just fix this thing up and just use it as a normal bike to ride with the family nothing aggressive or crazy though.

  6. Unfortunately it’s almost impossible to get parts for the cannondale headshock, other that that for free the price is right

That’s a classic-Ish 90s Mtb. As long as it doesn’t need too much work it’s definitely worth it. If, however, the owner slammed it back in the day and hasn’t really kept it maintained, it might cost more than it’s worth to make it safe and pleasant to ride.

If you’ve got some kind of community bike workshop in your area, take it in and ask politely what people think. i
If you don’t, get someone at a reputable local independent bike shop to look at it. You may get mixed opinions though.

Before first ride you must check/service front suspension. Invest in decent bike shop service and enjoy. It’s a nice bike even today

  9. The Headshock was ahead of its time. It’s finally coming around again with new tech. I wouldn’t thrash around in the woods, but I’d keep it for casual riding and take care of it. It’s not a junker to be left out in the rain.

As you can see, there are people who want it, so you could easily sell or swap.

  10. That’s an amazing bike, personally, I’d rather have a vintage Cannondale than a new bike.

  11. New Chain, Tires and a tuneup and it should be good! The front headshoks should be serviced, but thats the tricky part.

It was a top of the line hardtail. Today it’s an old bike. See if you can find someone to do the head shock maintenance for a reasonable price.

My daughter rides this bike to school every day.
I have never been on a smoother bike.

  14. No, this is crap. Give it to me, I will dispose of it properly and free of charge.

  15. Check out the Bike Farmer youtube channel. Watch a few vids there and you’ll have a good idea how to get this bike in good shape.
