Le Tour de Belgique – ou Baloise Belgium Tour – s’est élancé ce mercredi à l’occasion de la 1ère étape entre Merelbeke-Melle et Knokke-Heist (197.6km). Et comme attendu, la victoire s’est jouée au sprint, avec le succès de Tim Merlier. Surpuissant, le Belge de la Soudal Quick-Step n’a souffert d’aucune concurrence, puisqu’il s’est imposé avace deux vélos d’avance sur Juan Sebastian Molano (2e, UAE Team Emirates XRG) et Ethan Vernon (3e, Israel-Premier Tech). Principal adversaire de Merlier, Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) s’est lui fait une très grosse frayeur dans le sprint final, en touchant la roue arrière de Jason Tesson (TotalEnergies). Mais le Belge a miraculeusement réussi à éviter la chute.
