Round 7 of the 2025 British Cycling BMX National Series took us to Gosport BMX Club in Portsmouth for another action-packed weekend of national-level racing. I made the trip down with a mate and while the racing was intense and ultra-competitive, this time I didn’t quite make it through to the finals.
Still—what a weekend! From tight battles on the track to great laughs off it, this episode brings you the full experience of being part of the UK’s national BMX scene.

second corner color grunts making moves it’s all about fishing though at the moment corman’s not going out the last turn as life will stay strong making moves jay Seawward back in four would rather be the A final all right morning you join us for round seven of the uh BMX National Series down in Gport saturday morning we’ve got up at 7:00 uh me and the Grant have gone and got some breakfast we’ve gone to Tescos filled up with uh food for the day and drink and we’re going to head down to the track weather’s improved slightly it looks a little bit overcast and like it might rain so we’ll see how we get on with that um but yeah excited for today it should be a uh a decent day these are always very long days to be fair uh up and out early and we won’t be back till late so we’ll see how that war of attrition goes on lad who got injured yesterday was Jaden Green from Blackpool so yeah found out he has got he has injured himself what appears to be quite badly so just waiting to hear exactly what he has broken he’s definitely broken his collarbone but it sounds like he might have injured his he might have injured his spine and his neck a bit so fingers crossed um fingers crossed for him i hope he’s uh he’s going to make a speedy recovery but thoughts go out to him and the uh the black uh the Blackpool lot practice starts at uh 8:00 i think Connor’s on pretty much straight away and then we’re not on me and Lee till about 9 half 9ish and I think motor start again at 11:00 we’ll see how we uh we get through all that and and see where we where we lie i think there is 14 in min and le category so that means if I’ve done the maths right I think we just go straight to finals so it’s going to be quite a high attrition rate there’s going to be six of us that going to get left behind in that and there’s quite a few new faces new names that I I don’t know so looking forward to meeting some of the lads I’ve not seen before there’s a couple of Gossport riders that have entered um and we’ll see how how we place and how the day goes fingers crossed we can get into that get into that final but that’s not written on so we will see speak to you later i think you’re a bit casual for Gates you all right yeah good no no i I had a bit of a couple laps round yesterday feel it out a little bit it’s quite a nice uh flowy track isn’t it hey brother you okay you’re Chris mike mike you get all of the people in those shirts oh man it’s fine it’s no drama how long you raced for uh so I had a 15 year break in the middle so I’ve been back to racing for since co for 4 and a half years try never raced in the beginning i’ve just started racing this is my first national and regional year and then I’ve been racing roughly for two years two and a bit years oh here comes Tom i’m all right mate yeah the army let you out for a day saw you yesterday didn’t see you how’s it going yeah good mate oh it’s going to be weird without Groves here in Evans to be fair groves not here as well ne okay that’s what I mean we’ve just got loads of unknowns we’re going to face here is he no three usuals with seven unknowns yeah yeah i get nervous when it’s time to have like seven i get here about six weeks yeah i’m saying but but like does yours go when motor one goes I tend to get better no I get worse oh dear i don’t I get better i might find out practitioning you okay Matt hello mate how are you yeah good i can’t complain how’s your hand by the way it’s still sore but it’s it’s a load better than it was it’s a load better than it was m Yeah it just takes a few weeks doesn’t it the older you get i’m I’m four fourth week this week but like all the swelling’s gone mobility’s good mobility is loads better wow and you’re doing lots of physio off the bike ready okay so uh practice was good uh tracks the track seems to have sort of bedded itself in even more than yesterday it was really nice to be fair nice and clean in the corners everything’s feeling quite quick and sharp um the wind is playing a bit of Mariela unfortunately down straights number one straight number three so that might have a bit of an effect but yeah uh kind of excited for moto one/ nervous i don’t know why I’m I’m feeling it today but I I am feeling it a little bit so let’s get Moto One out the way let’s see where we are there’s a couple of people that aren’t here but Gross is not here Evie’s not here so there’s a load of new faces and a load of new people to try and get to get to know and see what they’re riding like and some of the local gospel lads coming so going to be interesting let’s have a good one um see for motor one see how we How’s the knee so sorry it’s okay it’ll run it ain’t fast probably be fast enough to beat me Matt that’s all that matters are we 17 are you in 17 uh 17 oh okay dude that’s what I do so I don’t look i don’t look so I just I just find psychologically it just makes me feel a bit hanging smash it Ash is it Carnage the one not my motor but there’s one of them he’s just a bad Andy’s got one of them andy’s last one’s like that it’s not fun is it be okay good this is James mate james nice to meet you yeah you got to watch what you say try and be funny what andy andy we’re getting shouted at it’s been It’s moto one and we’re getting shouted at do you know your miss can I go yes can Mike Tom thank you fire number 16 okay so motor one done man that went really well for me i was dead happy with it one of the lads made a bit of mistake in first corner i got off to a pretty good start pretty happy coming out the gate and yeah just had a had a good run down came third um time was about 40 second laps so I’m quite happy with that it’s easy to say when you’re doing well but you really like the track but that track it just flows really really well it’s got some really big features on it but you have a it’s got this sort of ability that you can either you can ride it kind of as hard as you want to ride it and uh and still survive you don’t have to manual at the minute obviously with a hand I am just pumping i’m not I’m not manualing i’m just trying to create speed through pumping and on third I feel like I can do that so that that is wicked uh other lads in there yeah a couple of lads from Gossport I’ve been able to meet i can’t remember names yet is the honest answer because I’m old and trying to remember names is always hard to be fair but yeah they all seem like really nice lads so we will we’re’ll go into motor two we’ll see how we go it’s going to have to be a race by race uh job this nothing is nailed on uh just cuz I got third now doesn’t mean that’s going to happen next so the motors are quite stacked out so we will see how we get on in the motors try our best see where that takes us moto two right Finn yes you’re miles too early I think aren’t you you’re not i’m 199 you race 199 yeah so I’m race 154 so you’ve got ages you’re welcome buddy hey dude yeah man yeah I’m getting there you all right Walshy is it that or did you miss his cracker she hit me she didn’t like what I said she’s a good judge of character wait till she sees the next uh next installment on YouTube we got to get one on the other side she hit me spent all weekend following this i didn’t enjoy it coming close though it was It was close are we together again for this one then and then you’ve got your super moto my super moto yeah my game over moto hopefully not we’ll see i just don’t know where we’re going to land mate is the honest answer i haven’t got I don’t I’ve still not looked at the motos i deliberately not looked other known that you’re in it that’s it no what did he say any of those videos got a face radio he’s ridiculous isn’t he no but he’s ridiculous on air but like on a four crossbite mate i call him the eye test i I fully thought he was going to be in he was going to be in 40 to 44 cruiser and if I could if I could still read his name I was going to be claiming to fame i think we’re in order thank you cheers that’s saying hello for a scaffold like a scaffold on a spelling test oh shut up okay sorry motor two done i didn’t go anywhere near as planned as uh oh definitely not what I wanted so on the gate um I think I was in gate six is from memory i think I’m in gate six and uh Craig Cordon in gate eight craig does the normal gate eight thing which is perfectly fine pulls across and unfortunately I have to let off slash dab a little bit of break to survive that and yeah that just kind of put me at the back of the pack and and unfortunately even trying to chase down the boys I just struggled to make the moves in the corners i did give it a try in second did give it a try in uh in third but I couldn’t make it stick down on the fourth so finished seventh which uh sucks unfortunately so it leaves me third in the first moto seventh in the second moto puts me 10th overall at the minute which means I’ve got lots to do andy Lockwood did better in that one so Andy finished uh finished fourth which solid effort to be fair and he did it in a 40 uh 40 and a half so yeah I think it is what it is so I had a 40 dead on pretty much in the first lap so if I can if I can sort of make that work again I might be better in this next moto but that’s going to be it’s going to be down to the line again i’m 10th now i need to make up two places need to get that eighth spot i’m just not sure I’m not sure whether that’s going to come we will we will see um Moto 3 underway shortly hopefully i’ve got on the gate i’ve got some people I can play with there so down to the wire not the way I wanted it to be i wanted to play a bit smarter and finish a bit further up but we’re just going to see here’s the A final achievable that is the question fingers crossed i’m the best filmer and here this is what you do you ready you’re like out and then you’re like here we are welcome that’s far too far too close okay yeah I’ll interview right sit down Sam sit down yeah sit down oh god your bosses yep sit down surprised say their grandparents Charlie’s grandparents is it Charlie’s grandparents they’re mega they go around to other tracks doing it crew and all sorts did they honestly mate yeah they they’re like BMX community spirit things mega i came seventh in that one cuz you g eight antics not because it’s not No it’s not to be sorry for it just is what it is but I couldn’t get into the first corner in the right place cuz I had to just back out a little bit i know i know i know that i know that i needed to get I know you did i got the legs to get to the end how did you Where did you come come on let the young ones free through Simon you’re in the old category gav nice to meet you nice to meet you your home territory here is it buddy my first national day oh god well done mate be rude not to do it wouldn’t it yeah 100% mate yeah so my daughter snapped it there but it came out and when it came out it pulled the nerve with it so she had like limp wrist couldn’t move her fingers and stuff that’s a lot of rehab yeah and it was a lot of rehab every other week back to the hospital braver isn’t she getting back on so she racing Gavin is she actually racing yeah she’s racing hey that’s mega yeah I take that she’s braver than us isn’t she i wouldn’t get back up compound fracture would be enough for me to go I’m all right hang on yeah real i mean to be fair the gospel was brilliant though cuz she broke it on the Sunday and then she was back down here the following Saturday coaching and and in that 10 months put her through all of her British cycling coaching tickets and everything it was really good like I hadn’t really appreciated like BMX community until you you witness it firsthand you know yeah and that that’s to be honest that’s what keeps me here what I enjoy so you’ll see I I film a lot of the racing put it on YouTube and basically capture as much as I can of what this is really when you say BMX racing people go “Yeah but when you actually show them what it’s all about yeah it’s more about camaraderie is it?” Yeah it’s about trying your best try trying to try your best trying to improve good sportsmanship you get beat you fist bump on the line that’s the end of it yeah agree yeah i love that i think I think that is a a way to teach kids how to morally behave cool yeah are you okay oh you’re gay we are in the same We are in the same order i promise good luck ride well great ra is about All the about the electron it’s a good old swap into the line pushing all the way who’s going to get well done bit of a sauce in third was it you okay wheeler okay so motor three done that was tough came fourth in that um really close with Gavin Brewer had a good start came down straight one decent uh second corner decent bit of a scrap in there for um like third place uh Gavin kind of led me through I think second then into third and then I was kind of catching him down third to be fair he had a bit of a wobble and uh two of us ended up having to play in the corner a little bit and I I pushed myself up the burm in order to keep out of trouble came back down hoping to go down fourth and take him on the fourth and I couldn’t make it make it work so yeah it is what it is unfortunately that put me 10th so I was one point out of uh turn this around for a minute i was one one point out of contention for the uh for the final unfortunately which means my day is over how are you doing mate good let me turn this off face tracking off so how’s your racing going good good yeah so what have we got next have you managed to make it through to quarters so what have we got to do quarterfinals semi-finals yours is always so much tougher than mine i’ve only got I’ve only got a little bit to do i’ve got to try and come top eight and then obviously get a final there’s no B final for me but you’ve got to come fourth haven’t you in the next three races two races two quarters semis yeah and then it’s decided really A or B final you’ve been doing really well with your uh racing all the way through the year haven’t you so where are you currently sat at the minute 17th 17th is decent you have got a tough age group category aren’t you all right Jacob well I wish you good luck mate with it thank you going to be good going to try your hardest yeah enjoy the sunshine drive your dad mad so I’ve got Yeah I’ve got nowhere to go now for the time being um I’m going to sit and watch some of the other races uh ride through and yeah just see how we can collect things through to tomorrow if I look at the timings to be fair my average lap is about a 40 secondond lap um that is well it’s averely good enough to keep on the edge of whether I can make that eighth position to make the final um the other lads that are quicker one of I think Dylan’s doing like a 36 which is like 4 seconds is mega um some of the others are doing 39s rob Harry’s Craig C’s doing a good job as well to be fair to Craig be does a lot of winging about how tight he is he he is doing really really well to be fair so for me we’ll see how we get on tomorrow it’s another race day it’s another time to try and we’ll just see how that goes i’m going to give it my best and uh yeah take care for now keep it rubber upside down i’ll see you see you guys tomorrow for some more racing cruiser line up on the GA final james BS Rob Harrys Ian Smai Simon Holmes Matthew Eton Craig Cing Dylan Dixon and Tom Ome all right looking for a whole shot in the middle there simon Homes was looking good from the 97 was also good out again from Ken Dixon on his back number seven on his plate but look at Homer to go gt battery out in front here comes the rider from Peter dixon up there into two the army rider in there in three it’s going to be Tom Odley oh there’s a bit by side in the second turn there as we look to the front of the pack it’s still home leading this one out from Nixon gibson in there in two and a half third place for Tom from Andover picking up the final spot with Mosport coming home in four
