Hello,
I recently picked up biking, 90% of the time the bike is being used to commute, but he was not maintained good :((.
I want to upgrade some of the parts, and sorry if i sound funny but i want to ride faster , i know that the road bikes are for that but in this situation i have to deal with this one :))
So what should i change first? None of the parts were being replaced since the time a bought it more than 10 years ago.
Thank you.

  1. How many parts do you want to upgrade? You could replace the drivetrain (chain, cassette, possibly crankset too if it’s worn out) and the cables and cable housing. That would already make the bike much better, and – apart from the crankset – would be inexpensive, especially if you do it yourself.

You could also go the whole hog and do a 1x conversion with a huge cassette at the back. May require a new wheel.

But if the bike was cheap I wouldn’t put too much money into it.

To ride faster, get some decent slick tyres and learn to pedal at a higher cadence.
