I’ve built up a lot of 80s and 90s 26” bikes in the last few years and this boring simple machine is without a doubt my favorite. It usually lives live as a single speed, but I wanted to put some gears on it to take it to New York for a little plane “rinko”. Highlights include…

  • Threadless 1” headset with a Crust x Nitto 1” / 31.8mm stem. I’m 200# and while I love threaded / quill setups it gets a little noodly with a load over rough stuff. This is plenty comfortable and plenty stiff.

  • Microshift Marvo LT derailer. My buddy gave me this when he changed his kid’s bike to 1x. It has tons of chain wrap and is perfectly cromulent for this use case.

  • Shimano V-brakes. No rotors to bend in transit. The way they’re currently setup feels kinda crap at the lever but they stop incredibly well of course.

I’m looking forward to getting home and taking the gears back off it for city country city bike rambling and scrambling.
