Just got back from my first-ever solo cycle touring trip, and it still feels surreal. I spent 8 days pedaling from Shimla (~2,100m) to Kaza in Spiti Valley (~3,625m), crossing high-altitude mountain passes over 13,000ft and riding through some of the most remote, raw, and beautiful terrain I’ve ever seen.

Camped on hotel rooftops and bedrooms of locals (because the cities were packed with tourists)- especially in Tabo and Nako.

This trip tested me in every way — physically, mentally, even emotionally at times — but I’d do it again in a heartbeat. It’s oddly satisfying to be on the roads for hours at stretch, alone.

Happy to answer questions if you're considering doing something similar!

    Super cool!

  2. Beautiful photos, thank you for sharing.
I can only imagine what it must have been like to experience it in person. I’d love to go there myself one day, by bicycle or otherwise. Such a shame it’s a world away.

How did you deal with the altitude? Did you have prior experience, or were you acclamatised to these heights?
