Biking Lake Ohrid — What Showed Up Shocked Us!

Join us as we explore Lake Ohrid in North Macedonia by push bike, cycling one of the most incredible routes in the Balkans. Our journey starts along Ohrid’s scenic waterfront before heading to Nemo Beach, famous for its crystal-clear waters. We then pedal through the charming Old Town, admire the historic streets, and continue along the lakeside boardwalk to Potpesh Beach. Along the way, we encountered surprising wildlife, including several snakes — even capturing underwater footage! Our final stop is the tranquil Voska Beach, the perfect end to this unforgettable bike ride around Lake Ohrid.

good morning we are in Lake Orid yesterday we had a very short travel day compared to what we’re normally used to it was about 3 hours and it just flew by and then when we got here we chilled out in our lovely apartment and then we watched sunset and had some local food we had a Macedonian burger which was actually really tasty wasn’t it oh so nice not what we expected at all either which was so nice huh today we are getting a bike and uh cycling around the whole not the whole of Lake Orid cuz it’s massive so we are renting push bikes today uh to go and see some beaches that are on Lake Orid and then tomorrow we’re doing stand up paddle boarding it’s going to be so good isn’t it i’m so excited it’s got everything that we want to do here it’s got the beaches it’s got crystal clear water which we love and snorkeling we’re going to snorkel love it here we go then bike station oh I think there’s enough bikes you dropped them hello hello i want one with a basket inside wow so many bikes jeez Louise i don’t think there’s a shortage ah one with a basket yeah one with a basket yeah do you want a basket you don’t have to have a basket basket then one basket for you one basket for me yeah perfect how fun uh this is my one €10 each for all day i can’t wait to go exploring you excited i am so excited we’re on the road going towards the lake now oh Nick’s wobbly i’ve got a basket as per requested i’m very wobbly we’re very wobbly i don’t know what’s wrong with us it’s like we’ve never ridden a bike before we made it to the lake it’s just through that park so now we’re going to head this way see what we can find see if we can find any beaches have a little dip i’m on the overtake [Music] this is so fun we have managed to get onto the lake front and it is gorgeous it’s completely empty look at that there might be anybody here this is absolutely amazing look at that so nice literally just cycling along it’s dead flat it’s easy this bike’s giving me life the brakes go funny there oh yeah hello hello we’re having so much fun this is dreamy the breeze is gentle the sky is blue it’s just a perfect day lake Orid is looking beautiful does it get any more scenic i don’t know look at it over there windy over there let’s go look at this we’re like in a country park vibe now we think we found our first beach let’s go check it out oh it looks like it’s like an abandoned water park my front brake is questionable this looks actually really nice though it’s quite busy it’s quite busy but it looks really nice the water is super clear i say let’s have a dip let’s have a dip i’m ready get some food and then we’ve just come to Milano without any food so that’s a great idea from us not But let’s get in as soon as we’re here look how clear it is i don’t think I’ve ever seen a lake this clear i can literally see little fish like swimming there it’s amazing are you getting in i’m getting in yeah i might have a little dip how exciting where oh my god do you want to dive in there’s a snake swimming in that lake i can see its head that’s it i’m not going in here absolutely not there’s a snake in the water i forget it’s a lake I think cuz And I just think it’s the sea but it’s not the sea it’s a lake and there are sea there are lake snakes obviously there’s sea snakes as well but you don’t see them very often that is vile it’s just swimming along with its head out the water let’s go check out how clear this water is cuz it is stunning there’s a few snakes finally do my research on what they are but they won’t be a problem oh he’s got it my legs are burning we’ve left Nemo Beach just had lunch and now we’re heading to our next destination which is a Pebble Beach which we saw on the way uh to the last beach but we’re heading back towards Orid now because we believe that around the corner there might be some more like places to go and see if you’re coming with us yeah on Google Maps we found some uh beaches that look really nice so they’re a bit more small they’re not as I don’t think they’re going to be as busy but you just never know we’re just cruising along we are having such a fun time just on the bikes so it’s like these cycle paths are amazing pulling up to our next beach gorgeous i think this looks lovely very cool i love the view over there yeah that’s really nice that’s like with the castle it almost looks like really really Mediterranean doesn’t it and then you got all the mountains over here it’s like 100% crystal clear it’s actually insane like the fact that it’s a lake is blowing my mind what we are just back at the main part of Orid just cycling through where all the boats are and it’s so picturesque like up ahead is just so gorgeous so nice honestly but we’re going to head to this next beach see what we can find so I’m excited we’ve ended up down these little cobble streets with like restaurants each side ice cream bumpier oh no there’s a car so this is actually the old town of Orid and it is so cool it’s so pretty isn’t it we’ve just literally just cycled right through it and it’s so pretty look at it looks like a little place you can get in and have a dip imagine staying in one of those places right on I know we’re right on the water oh this is gorgeous got little steps and everything that is awesome over there now that the sun’s on it so pretty so after reading the sign it is actually one of the oldest medieval churches in the region which is so interesting it looks super old to be honest it literally looks like it was made so long ago and this is the old town which they’re obviously trying to preserve but it’s so interesting the columns are so cool hello well no one said that there was going to be snakes in Lakewood that’s crazy we seen like three four snakes in our whole time so far and we’ve like quadrupled that maybe more they are everywhere at least 10 today at least at least 10 today when Fiona pointed one out this morning I was like “Oh maybe that’s just one we I’ve seen one at every single spot we’ve been to and there’s been multiple ones here.” We have just arrived at our next beach when we say beach they’re not really beaches here they’re more like just parts that you can access the water um there is a little beach just around the corner over there a little stony beach but we’ve just come to this bit cuz it is so peaceful there’s literally one guy over there and then it’s us and we are just taking it in aren’t we it’s beautiful it’s so peaceful it’s probably one of the most peaceful places we’ve been actually this time lake Gor wins the peaceful contest here yeah it’s so nice honestly it’s been such a gorgeous day we just couldn’t have had better weather it’s just been blue skies a few little clouds but nothing to worry about like it is gorgeous i can’t wait to cycle a bit more in a bit nick’s decided he’s going to go and see if he can find the snake he’s feeling brave all of a sudden i’m going to I’m going to be like when one comes towards towards me but fun let’s go we’re on the search for the next one the next beach speed bump we’ve just been cycling through like a really local area so I’ve got a feeling this is going to be quite rogue around here left or right right we have just parked the bikes up and this is such a local vibe yeah like lots and lots of locals coming down for the evening swim in the hot weather it’s beautiful isn’t it it’s so flat and still it’s just mind-blowing let’s go and have a little look it’s like a proper little sandy beach this one the black sand very pretty not as clear the water a little bit more murky murky Kiki but still beautiful beautiful you get a really nice view over there of the mountains gorgeous i wonder what that noise is
