This is my girlfriends bike. We think it’s a Peugeot City Express Mixte 3V from 1990 but we’re not certain. While I have a modern mountain bike, I have no experience with something like this. It was not correctly setup when we purchased it.
So far, I have cleaned the Sachs drum brake system, correctly assembled it, and aligned the front wheel correctly. The internal ball bearing system on the front wheel was very gummed up with grit and dirt, and the wheel wouldn’t free spin. I’ve cleaned up the ball bearings and applied be grease and it now glides perfectly.
The bike has a 3 gear system on a cable that seems to operate via increasing or decreasing tension somewhere, but I’ve not yet looked into this gear system yet and don’t know what it is exactly.
I expect the back wheel will need cleaning and greasing inside and the gear system might need some work.
Does anyone have experience in these bikes and can tell me (a) anything important I should be looking at that is likely to be failing and (b) any tips on how to service the gear system? Many thanks!
