I’d like to get this bike but the [1by version](https://www.canyon.com/en-pt/gravel-bikes/adventure/grizl/al/grizl-7-1by/3468.html) is expected to arrive next month, while the [2by version](https://www.canyon.com/en-pt/gravel-bikes/adventure/grizl/al/grizl-7/2709.html) isn’t announced.
My typical bike ride involves climbing on a paved road for 40 minutes and then slowly coming down on gravel and dirt paths for another 40m.
The only experience I have doing this is with [my current bike](https://www.canyon.com/en-pt/roadlite-wmn-al-6.0/50000509.html?utm_source=row-ordermailing&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=row-ordermailing&campaigndate=20210401), a Canyon Roadlite.
I don’t really know what exactly is the lowest gear ratio because in the specs it doesn’t specify the tooth counts of the chainrings in the shimano sora r3000 – I’m a newbie in the technical aspects of biking and even though I just learned to do the math, I asked ChatGPT and it told me its lowest ratio is 1.063.
I also gave CGPT the specs of both the 1by and 2by and the gear ratios are 0.952 and 0.882, respectively. Even the 1by ratio is lower than the one I use right now, which is good news because it might not feel like a downgrade when I have to climb. And when comparing both the 1by and 2by, the difference is less than 8%. Is this a felt difference while climbing? I don’t really care if I spin out when descending.

I have a grizl 7 1x. 40t chain ring with 46t cassette (grx 812 derailuer lists max 42t but it can fit 46T). It’s got a better climbing gear than the 2x. The top end isn’t great if you are looking to go over 30mph. I don’t find that to be an issue since I use it primarily on gravel and don’t want to go that fast. My road bike is for that purpose.
I think if you can climb hills already with a higher lowest gear on your roadlite than on a grizl 1by this version is fine for you. You could still upgrade for a smaller chainring in front or a bigger cassette in the back if needed to get a lower gear ratio.

About one speed easier for 8% difference, it is sensible but only needed for very steep sections, on the road it is not really needed, more for steep off-road. Other than descending the biggest difference is the gap between gears, if you do long road runs it is nice to have smaller gaps but if you have rough terrain I’d go for 1by, lower chance to hit something with the chainring and low chance of getting the chain dropped. Also less setup and maintenance.
