Got my dad's 1983 Specialized Expedition up and running. He bought it new in the 80's and commuted around 34 miles round trip daily to the Alameda Naval Air Station before it was shut down.
He's getting unstable and the bike was already big for him, so he can't throw a leg over it anymore. He fell in love with it in the bike shop back in the early 80s and made the size work for over a decade of commuting.
I picked it up in Petaluma, CA. Swung by Cycle Chvrch in Petaluma for the Nitto bars, swung by Rivendell in Walnut Creek on my way back to LA for some shifters, and have been riding it daily since. Feels sweet to go out on a ride with my son and be on the bike that my dad would be riding when I'd ride my bike to meet him on his route home from work when I was a kid.
Cycling is a wonderful thing to pass along.

Very classy early 80s bike.
Legendary bike. And cool bike shop in Petaluma, just looked them up online. I’ll have to drop by sometime.
I’m sure your kid will look back on these times fondly just as you have 🙂
That frame will probably out live us all. Respect to your Dad for the work and commute, and yourself for bringing this ol’ girl back.
