Bough a Raleigh off Facebook couple years ago for $60. Was fun while it lasted but I had a bad crash head on into someone ( was totally my fault and was so ashamed to even ride for a while) I’m guessing it damaged my bike because my brakes started to give out shortly after and front brakes even broke while I was mid ride a few weeks ago.
Anyways I just got a giant escape 3 with disc brakes. I’ve taken it out for an about 50 miles total and love the thing. Second pic you can see front rim brake just hanging out

Just so you know… Brakes are serviceable and repairable. Your Raleigh was fine. Just needed a service.
