Hey everyone,

First time posting in this subreddit, so not sure if a post like this one is the norm.

I’m in the market for a used bike rack for my Subaru Outback. I want to bring two bikes (a gravel bike and a mountain bike) to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan from lower Michigan. Posted here are the options on marketplace near me.

What I value in a used bike rack is 1) a reputable brand, 2) ease of use, and 3) ability to open tailgate without taking off bikes. I think the ones that I have selected largely meet that criteria, but I would love your advice.

Are any of these options good choices/value for what I am looking for?

Please let me know. Also, if you have other thoughts, I am happy to hear them.

Thank you!

The hanging style ones you chose imo are terrible. Hard to get bikes on, lower weight limit, not good for carbon frames, and blocks the hatch more than a tray style rack would.

Good tray-style racks are: Kuat, Thule, one up, and Yakima

  2. If any of the bikes are carbon, the hanging style is not ideal as they can damage the frame

I cannot recommend anybody buy Thule. It’s almost impossible to find replacement parts and they aren’t built nearly as well as other brands.

A tray-style Kuat, RockyMounts, or One-Up is a MUCH better investment.
