Found a free bike on marketplace(purple Kynast) to use as a disposable bike around the city. It was in rough condition so i wanted to tune it a bit. Decided to disassemble it, clean and lube every part. Got it close to functional, but couldn't find the gear wire.

Got notification from marketplace, another free bike in my area, a DBS Kilimanjaro from 94. I couldn't say no to that so I picked it up.

Now my living room is a bike workshop and I still don't have a rideable bike, eventhough I spent many, many hours tinkering(I never should have disassembled the shimano nexus 7 gear hub) and money on tools, parts etc.

Hopefully I will have a functional bike soon. Just gotta sort all the parts after rust removal and try to remember where to put them all.

Really happy I got into this and gave me a new appreciation for bikes, especially older ones. Can't wait to ride my own custom bike!

  1. It’s a good idea to take pictures at every stage of disassembly when you’re working with unfamiliar things. Also a good idea to take one thing apart at a time, degrease it, regrease it, and reassemble it before disassembling another thing.
