Synopsis

I am mildly out of cycling shape and was hauling too much gear but this was a great warm up trip for me. Had a great time and the scenery is gorgeous. For those of you who don't know Oregon has some great cycling infrastructure. Everything from hiker/biker camp sites to roadside repair stations. I think it's a great place to ride.

While the official bikeway starts at Champoeg I took the MET to South Park Station and rode the Trolley Trail from there. I am glad I did because I went through Oregon City which is a great little town and if your looking for a place to grab a bite to eat before you get to the campgrounds I would stop there.

Champoeg is a great campground for cycling and has warm showers and even electricity to charge your devices.

The route is pretty straight forward and the signage is great so you really don't even need to use a GPS. I did the trip in 5 days because I was stopping to smell the roses and wasn't in any kind of hurry. It can be done a lot quicker especially if you've got a lighter load.

Definitely would add a dogleg out to Corvallis on the trip. A cool little college town with a busy downtown. It was just a nice place to visit and grab some lunch. Will add about an extra 10-15 miles onto the route.

When you finish in Eugene it's easy to hop on the Amtrak and go wherever you want. You need to buy a bike ticket in advance but you don't need to disassemble your bike. Just remove your panniers/bags and your good to go.

All in all a fantastic trip.
