I just changed the stem on my Trek FX Sport 4. After installing, I noticed this gap between the dust cover and the head tube. Not sure if this is acceptable or maybe i did a really poor job. There’s zero play when rocking the bike holding the brakes. However, I can rotate the dust cover using both hands and applying some force. This does not happen with my Trek Dual Sport
negative-nelly on
My Enduro is somewhat like this, maybe slightly tighter. Like you, no movement. I just stick some lube in the gap to catch the dirt and clean it every once in awhile when it creaks.

I hope so! Because that’s how mine looks!

That said I would do it again just to be sure.
