I present to you my unholy abomination of a build.

I slapped a Surly ICT fork on this rusty frame making it an affront to all frame designers and geometry purists. The ICT fork axle to crown is almost 3" longer than the original fork, raking out the front end giving it a "modern" feel. Gotta be long, low and slack these days.

Much to the dismay of many in this sub, I have converted it to 1x. This has achieved nothing but i had the blue chain ring and it matched the blue grips. Matching colors > practical build decisions. I kept the original cranks, 3x 5 bolt mounting, which meant I had to make a custom "mounting plate" to mount the 1x 4 bolt chainring. And in true xbiking fashion, I did this with a drill, hand saw, and bench grinder…and rattle canned it obviously. But I didn't wait for it to dry so it has some smudges in it.

This bike was stored well by the previous owner in a chicken coop with a leaky roof. (See picture of water pouring out of the bb shell) I was unable to save the original Deore LX shifters and derailluers due to rust, however the canti rear still works just fine.

I traded a sixer of Deschutes Fesh Squeezed for it, but I feel I got the loosing end of the deal.

Well how does it ride!? Like a bike, duh. Now go build your own fat mullet.

  1. Finally a sensible build in here!
This is so much more xbiking than all the shiny boring 2000$ builds nobody rides in bad weather.
    Love it!

i remember when this was all the rage to do on a 29er around 2010. looks geometrically challenging on a 26.

  3. Serious monster truck vibes. Looks like you can carry a crapton of stuff on the front. Practical, some would call it.

  4. Ok. And then here I am contemplating a 27.5/26 mullet like it’s a rocket science.

  5. Good God. Bizarrely the only objection I have is to the drippy modern parts on this. Otherwise today’s klunker kudos is all yours, sir.

Sweet as a nut! I remember the Salsa Enabler fork from a few years back, they’d still have a place
