In this video, we join the Twyford and Colden Common mass cycle ride, exploring cycle ways and main roads to highlight the importance of safe and accessible cycling infrastructure in and around Colden Common, Twyford, Winchester, and the surrounding areas. We showcase how cycling can be a fun, inclusive activity for people of all ages and abilities, while promoting greener, safer transport options for local communities. Join us as we advocate for better cycle routes and safer journeys on two wheels in this beautiful part of the UK.
this is the Twin and Colden Common uh branch We are heading on on mass all people uh of all ages and abilities riding in a in a mass cycle bus all the way into town using some of the main roads uh some of the cycle ways just to demonstrate the need for uh cycle infrastructure running around the area and most importantly to have fun [Music] You know we’re getting more and more cars on the roads The roads are getting bigger So it’s one of the best ways that we as a as a local community could support the environment and healthy active lifestyles Want to get to and from work school um and into into our towns and cities safely Put in a cycle way between Pockley Lights and Church Lane at Twford Then carry on down through the side of triple 35 to Colton Common It’s about community It’s great to see everybody coming together this morning Yes we’d like better cycle paths so people can cycle with their families and to work and feel safe We’d love there to be better cycling infrastructure around here I’d love to feel safe cycling from Colden Common into Winchester Quality of the roads no they’re shocking uh full of potholes quite dangerous for cyclists obviously and that makes you quite anxious Uh yeah we have quite a few in terms of post passes particularly we live in Bishop’s Wam so the main road going through can be quite dangerous [Music] I think it’s about letting people get around how they want to get around You know I I’ I’ve joined up with um Sus actually We do a lot of surveys and people you know always say I want to cycle more but I would like some better infrastructure you know I would like less traffic from the roads and things like that So the more of us that do it then the more other people will be encouraged to do it It’s great for fun and mental health the environment I mean how many things does it tick if you want to get people cycling and out of their cars you got to make it good My daughters never feel safe road cycling only So it’s like it’s amazing to see this many kids here isn’t it if you can have segregated bike paths like decent ones not shared use but like where cycling takes preference then that means that not just kids but people can have the confidence that they can arrive at their destination with a really really good chance of not being hit I was knocked off my bike in December and broke my scapula So I know from firsthand experience that it yeah it sucks We would like more space in the city and it’s great for kids just to see this be part of like community action Brilliant There are hundreds of people out So brilliant work and a great advert for cycling in Winston The message is really for some of the local um uh councils and and central government to invest in that infrastructure make it a priority I know we’ve got lots of conflicting things going on but it’s such a key enabler for people to be active and for the environment So from an environment and from a health perspective and longerterm health you know the pressures that we have on NHS more active people means less of a burden on that So better for the environment better for people Come on Uh local councils and uh and central government let’s do more [Music]
