[Applause] ring roads are associated with dual carriageways and lots of traffic but Dundee has a different kind of ring route a cycle path this path is used jointly by pedestrians and cyclists with information boards at various locations along the route the map shows how this route follows the city limits of Dundee the project was initiated in the 1990s with a fun run organized in 1997 to popularize its use 3 2 1 go [Music] lowcost paths were laid down giving access to pleasant areas on the outskirts of the city this was a redundant bridge from the city center providing a vital link in the path the local authority required builders to provide part of the construction this is a development by bet limited and their planning permission was granted subject to provision of a section of combined footway cycle way some existing footpaths such as this length adjacent to the busy A92 have been converted to dual use certain lengths make use of existing roads which are lightly trafficked road humps keep speeds down and in fact deter drivers from using the roads a fortuitous spin-off is that the ringroot links several amenity features in Dundee this is the rock gardens at Barn Hill a popular spot [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] along at Broy Ferry the kiddy’s playground is also [Music] wellused the route runs close to the T estie with a view over to F reaching the city center we can visit Discovery the vessel used by Scott of the Antarctic the cycle route passes through Camperdown Park a favorite place for Dondonians to relax this weekend we have a show by the Canine Club [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] heat heat [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] no everything is sweetness and light yet for cyclists it has been a struggle to get facilities cyclists were originally banned from using this safe subway broken glass can be allowed to lie for years it is not always realized that bicycles cannot jump up a 4in step well if you fall off you just have to pick yourself up dust yourself off and start all over again despite protests this ruted verge has not been surfaced even though it is adjacent to a busy thoroughare i wonder if this workman is just trying like cyclists to keep clear of vehicle fumes human beings are not always appreciative of improvements to the environment [Music] as the entire route round Dundee is 26 miles the same distance as a marathon it is appropriate to have a cycle thawn this one was sponsored by Cleverhouse Rotary Club to raise money for charities [Music] dundy instrumental band gave the participants a good send off [Music] [Music] [Music] just for the video [Music] [Applause] after a long climb up through Templeton Woods the refreshment stop was welcome [Applause] [Music] like Bye okay that guy overall this route is an excellent facility both for safety and pleasure one of my favorite places to visit is Trotic Ponds now made accessible by the path this young father introduces his daughter to the wildlife on the old mill [Music] ponds [Music] here grandparents use kitty seats to give their grandchildren an outing what better than a leisurely trip in such pleasant surroundings
