How is it that road bike users do not use fidlock bottles? I have a 2XS frame and fidlocks seem to be a great way to ensure I can fit two bottles in the frame space and have space to access them without pain … is there something fundamentally wrong with them?

PS. Moved from carrying 2 Podium chill bottles to this setup; It made no difference to me, so seeing if I am missing some point here…

  1. Price I guess. 50€ for a single bottle is pretty steep.

Also, a 590ml and a 750ml bottle unfortunately do not for in a 2XS Grizl.

I’d agree that price is the limiting factor. You need the hardware which is going to cost more on licensing fees alone and it’s probably a niche product for that reason. I use a medium frame so i haven’t ever had that problem unless I’m running a center frame bag. If I am I’ll go for side loading cages with 15oz/450ml and 24oz/710ml podium bottles to make it all fit. Maybe side loading cages would be a cheaper alternative to fidlock bottles if they fit?

  3. – They’re expensive

    – I don’t ride a 2XS frame so space isn’t an issue

    – They don’t make an insulated bottle

    – I don’t want a valve I have to open with my teeth

    – I want to be able to move bottles between bikes without implementing the magnetic system everywhere

    – I have a toolkit that lives in my second bottle cage sometimes

I think that about covers it.

  4. I use this setup on my xs aeroad. Like the minimalistic look. So far no problems. It’s easier to use the front bottle when riding so at some point I switch the bottles so my active bottle is in the front. Was also wondering why it’s not more common.
