Some call it progress. Others call it catastrophic.

[Music] today in Paris you’re either on two wheels or probably stuck in traffic since 2015 Paris has spent 250 million on cycling infrastructure laying down over 1,000 km of bike lanes so has the city of light become bike friendly or just car hostile well bike uses doubled in the past year and for the first time ever there are now more bikes than cars in the city center bikes now account for 11.2% of all trips and cars just 4.3% take for example once a busy road essential for cars needing to cross the city today it’s reserved for buses taxis and bikes only cars are now completely banned to make space for this 3 m wide bike lane from east to west the bike network has exploded but some cyclists say there’s still some way to go [Music] [Music] and yes making space for bikes has come at someone else’s expense cars and those who drive them parking spots are vanishing car lanes have shrunk and now Paris plans to close 500 more streets to traffic making them car-free zones [Music] catastrophic and that’s Mayor and Hidalgo’s vision a parent that’s 100% cyclable by 2026 less cars and more bikes progress maybe but not everyone’s riding in the same direction

  1. Fantastic, exercising and transporting! anyway Paris has to have rules for cyclists or will define the purpose of easily commuted. Unfortunately the construction of streets and the surrounding areas with business are already being built so you have to work with what you have.

  2. Can Anne Hidalgo PLEASE announce her run for New York City Mayor?!?! She is what we need for the fight to get Congestion Pricing to the point where we can transition onto Parisian Parity.
