Hi,

In the end of summer I'll be coming through Germany from Denmark, going towards Amsterdam. This is just a part of the trip, so I am kind of trying to be efficient here. The pink option seems more direct, but there are 2 ferries along the route. The alternative is to go slightly more south though Hamburg and Bremen. Unless there are clear benefits of taking this route, I'd like to avoid the bigger cities. But since I have little experience biking in this area, I'd really appreciate input from people with more experience.

Thanks!

For NL go a little bit more south through the green area near Apeldoorn on your map. That’s the Veluwe national park and it’s beautiful.

I rode roughly the red route and it was boring af (mainly farm fields and straight paths) except for some interesting archeological sites a bit west of Bremen.

I’m from a that first part in Germany to Bremen. From Bremen on its nice. Around the Wümme and until Hamburg there are nice routes (Lüneburger heide).

But the part from the Dutch boarder to Bremen is boring. Maybe try wildeshauer Geest for some gravel routes (it’s a national park).

In the Netherlands look for green divide on komoot.

    Take the red route.

  4. I’ll be biking through that region in 2 week just the opposite direction so good to see the suggestions here

  5. I rode a mix of red and purple the other way round up to Sweden and enjoyed most of it. It was quite rural and flat, and as I had a tailwind I just rode through most of it. I visited Bremen but didn’t want to bother with Hamburg so took the ferry at Wischhafen instead, then to Kiel and got on the Malmö ferry at Lübeck. There’s a couple of sweet (and free!) little bivouac spots around those areas. Feel free to me up if you need directions.

As others have said, use red to enter the Netherlands, it’s a lot nicer.

  6. Probably one of the most boring routes I’ve ever done from Hamburg to the Netherlands.

  7. I rode down from Norway to the Netherlands in 2020, and rode this stretch. Chose my route to be efficiënt too. Crossed the Elbe with the ferry at Glückstadt which was totally fine, would definitely recommended that over going through or near Hamburg. German cycle paths are horrible, especially near urban areas. I also didn’t go close to Bremen but crossed the Weser near Blumenthal. No active memory of that, assuming it was fine. But I remember wanting to get home, so I did this part in about two days.
