Hey everyone I’m looking to upgrade from a [Gary fisher hifi plus](https://www.northrimadventure.com/product/gary-fisher-hifi-plus-538.htm). Overall I’d say the bike is quite good but I’m looking for something that is updated that will be more efficient climbing, while still being able to handle downhill as well. I think I’d fit in the trail/downcountry category.

I tend to ride up my local Mountain (Paris mountain, sc ) and down it but I’d also like to get into some more flow trails as well. So I’ll be riding trails in the western Carolina’s.

A few issues I have with my current bike:
I’m looking for something that will roll over roots and rocks better as this tends to limit me a bit.
I’d like a bit more pedal clearance. And I’d like good brakes especially smooth ones. I had to replace my rear brake and it’s very loud now. I want a dropper post
I’m continually spending money to tune up my rest gears as the chain slips a lot or won’t shift properly.
Lastly I want something that’s a bit lighter than what I have.

I’m a bit lost on where to start. I’m thinking in the $2,000-$3,000 range, either new or used. But I can be flexible on price if needed.
