Whelp. I was extremely excited to receive and assemble my first gravel bike. I was not aware of Scott's D shaped seat clamp design (I should have done more research). Put some carbon assembly paste on the mating surface but I did realize I needed to place in the set screw safety shim in between the screw hole and I screwed it into the carbon, then I heard some creaking 😭. Did I just ruin this $300 seatpost immediately?

  1. Yeah I wouldn’t trust riding it, maybe you can get it repaired but most probably it will be cheaper to buy it new

With carbon fiber being so brittle I don’t get the hype over it. Seems like one wrong drop and the entire bike is garbage. But that’s just me. I’d be beyond pissed if I was out $300 because of a screw.
