Got to try out biking with night vision for the first time this morning. It worked surprisingly well but I would say it's more fun to hike with night vision because I want to look around a lot more but with the bike I have to be laser focused on what's in front of me and I can't be looking all around at everything else the way I do when I'm walking. One of the cooler things about using night vision instead of flights is you get to see all sorts of critters that you might not have. I got to see two cats, a raccoon and a mink on my hour and a half ride.

  1. Ahh yes enjoy the spider across your chin as you blast through his newly formed web, with him in the middle of it. Nothing like the great outdoors at night.

  2. I would 100% be down for this. I used to commute early morning and wearing a light on your forehead basically brings every large moth and flying insect directly into your mouth. Moths are covered in a dust and even if you spit them out immediately, just a horrific experience. Many of the bugs get swallowed before you can spit them out. Masks solved the problem but high impact moths still spray that powder on you.

I think the cost of them s the main issue for me.

  3. You know, military recently tried flying helicopters in DC area with NV goggles and how did that go ?

  4. I’ve thought about buying kit and doing this more than once. Just as a heads up: There’s a lack of impact absorbing goodness in a 3a or 4 helmet that makes them suboptimal as a bike helmet.

That sounds awful. You have nearly no depth perception in NODs, especially at higher speed!

How fast is the image response, does it noticeably lag when you move your head around?

Its a lot cheaper to just not bring lights or night vision and bring a first aid kit instead. I’m going to be back to it after my broken legs arms and skull heal.
