Mounted by new Ortlieb fork bag holders in advance of a recent bikepacking trip. Used the torque wrench that came with my Canyon to make sure I didn't exceed the 3Nm limits on my Grizl AL fork. 5 went in fine and I tightened them to 2Nm because a friend had had a problem with his CF mounts. The 6th one, I never got it to tighten hardly at all. 1Nm at the most and then it just spun.

Did the ride and things seemed fine. When I got home, I took off the bag mounting racks and this is what I see. I've reached out to Canyon to see if they'll help out.

I assume the bike is perfectly rideable since I did 250 miles while fully loaded recently. Seems like it's just the pain that cracked and so I didn't worry much when I did another 80 mile gravel ride earlier this week.

But it's still a bummer. Anyone have any luck getting Canyon to address it? Should I just use a rubber mallet and tap the thing back into the frame?

That’s def a design flaw. This should not affect the integrity of the fork, but def reach out to Canyon.
DO NOT tap it, it may stay in, but as soon as you mount a bag to it, it will pull out again.

  2. That happens more often than you think. I have seen it on a few bikes. Not just Canyon. Even more often in combination with the Ortlieb fork bag. The design of the holders is bad, I think. I you watch it closely, The holder itself sits on the outside of the metal insert. That means, by turning the screw, you pull the threaded insert out of the fork. It’s fine if the glue is bonded properly. If it’s not, you pull out the insert.

That said, contact Canyon and see what happens. The bike is fine to ride, but don’t push it back in or attach something to that insert.
