Howdy from a fellow noob! π May it bring you miles of smiles.
I just took my P Line to work today and it’s such a relief being able to park it under my desk rather than leaving a full-sized bike outside.

I have not had any other kind of bike as an adult, so I have no other bike I can compare it to, but I couldnβt imagine having any other kind of bike for riding in NYC because I often use the Metro North train for part of my travels, and the ability to fold it down so compactly is a game changer.
It’s particularly convenient on the rare occasions when I take the subway and a subway train suddenly goes out of service, but I can use my trusty Brompton for riding the rest of the way to my destination. For one particular subway line, the number 4 train, bringing my Brompton along is practically a requirement for completing my ride back to the Bronx.

Happy New Bike Day and birthday! You chose Bromptonβs most beautiful color, methinks!
My birthday gift to you: SAFETY! Always have two daytime flashing lights (front/rear)on while youβre ridingβalso at night.
Hereβs a copy of a post I resend a lot here, on Facebook, etc. for new Bromptoneers! Hope this helps keep you safer out on the road:
Other than your helmetβand perhaps the bellβthe most important thing to add to your bike is blinking lights for both day and night (especially day!). Even simple, low-quality blinking lights reduce your chances of being hit by a car by nearly 50%. And the better the light, the better your chances. Iβve included some videos and websites for you to peruse below. Hopefully, Iβll convince you!
This YouTuber is a superb Brompton- and biking-focused creator. They have a great video here on why blinking lights give you so much more safety:
Trek (owner of Bontrager) has a great blinking light resource page too. Scroll down to look at the data on the website, and then watch the video at the top. Both are excellent:
I bought Trek/Bontrager lights because they are much better than basic lights. They focus the beam for better visibility, distance, and reduced driver glare. Theyβre easily rechargeable using a USB-C to USB mini cableβsomething I do from time to time if one of the lights (usually the red one) is running low. Iβll just pop the low light, plugged into my iPhone, into my pocket for a whileβnewer phones can be a battery too. When I get home, I always check their charging status and put them on the charger once or twice a week. They last a long time and have an emergency mode that keeps them flashing for a meaningful amount of timeβeven when the battery is lowβenough to get you safely to your destination.
By the way, I always use the random, non-repeating flashing mode for both lights.
I bought this light set at REI (year return policy nice too, to get the right lights):
Even though my 12-speed Brompton Electric C Line has excellent built-in night lights, I wanted a backup front light for extra brightnessβeither for very dark roads or when riding against a lot of bright oncoming traffic.
Even though the backup light has an excellent daytime front flashing mode, I wanted it solely as a night light to mostly stay in my bag as a backup.

Why three lights?
