[Ep. 1067] In this video, I explore the striking Cirkelbrug (Circle Bridge) on the edge of Almere in the Dutch province of Flevoland. Opened in 2022, this corten steel cycling and pedestrian bridge makes it possible to cross the Waterlandseweg (N305) and spans both that busy dual carriageway and a canal. Designed by wUrck Architects, the bridge not only improves the cycling network but also invites people to linger at its two scenic viewpoints.
You’ll see the elegant circular on-ramp, the disused glass lift to a bus stop below, and the bridge’s relationship with its surroundings — including a remarkable piece of land art: the Green Cathedral, a living tribute to Gothic architecture shaped in poplar trees.

  1. I always use the traffic light crossing of the road and then the bridge further to the west 😅 I didn't know I could turn right from the lijsterweg to this new bridge. (When cycling from stichtsebrug)

  2. Expensive bridge in one of the least needed places.
I could think of about 5 places right now that'd be more appropriate.
