In this video, Josh from Biciclette D’Epoca presents the B Schicht Stelle Vanwoid bicycle at Bespoked 2024 in Dresden, Germany, focusing primarily on the bike’s innovative paint application. The standout feature is the use of Cerakote, a ceramic coating similar to powder coating, renowned for its durability and resistance to scratches. This makes it particularly suitable for gravel bikes, which are typically exposed to rough conditions, including brush and rocks. Josh highlights Cerakote’s unique texture and style, emphasizing how it effectively protects the bike’s frame without compromising aesthetics. He also points out the techniques used in the paint application, such as multi-pass layers to achieve different colors without a tactile difference, and sandblasting for subtle texture effects on design elements like the lightning bolt. Overall, the video emphasizes how Cerakote enhances both the performance and the visual appeal of the B Schicht Stelle Vanwoid, making it a practical and stylish choice for rugged cycling environments.

### Key Insights
– 🎨 **Cerakote as a Novel Coating for Bicycles:** The use of Cerakote represents an evolution in bike finishing technology. Unlike traditional paint, Cerakote’s ceramic properties provide enhanced durability. This coating method is particularly suitable for gravel bikes, which require protection from environmental abrasions and impacts, thus extending the bike’s lifespan and preserving its aesthetics in harsh conditions.
– 💪 **Durability Meets Functionality:** Scratches and wear are common challenges for gravel bikes due to their off-road use. Cerakote’s scratch-resistant nature is a significant selling point, emphasizing that advanced materials and coatings can meet the demanding needs of specific cycling disciplines. This synergy of functionality and durability illustrates how material innovation can directly influence user experience.
– 🎯 **Multi-Pass Application Without Texture Disruption:** Applying different colors in separate passes without creating a perceptible texture difference showcases high craftsmanship and technical expertise in applying Cerakote coatings. This technique ensures that the design remains sleek and smooth, highlighting aesthetic attention alongside material performance. It speaks to the meticulous work involved in bespoke bike finishes.
– ✨ **Use of Sandblasting for Design Detailing:** Integrating sandblasting into the paint finish to create subtle textures along design elements (e.g., the lightning bolt) enhances the visual depth and uniqueness of the bike. This method provides a tactile and visual contrast that enriches the overall appearance and enhances brand or model identity through custom detailing.
– 🛡️ **Cerakote vs. Powder Coating for Bikes:** While powder coating is a common technique, Cerakote’s ceramic composition offers notable advantages, such as better resistance to scratches and an innovative texture. Understanding these differences provides insight into evolving finishing technologies in cycling, where material science is leveraged for both aesthetics and functional improvements.
– 🚵♂️ **Customization for Purpose in Bike Design:** The choice of Cerakote on the B Schicht Stelle Vanwoid underscores a philosophy of designing bikes not just for looks but for specific environmental demands. Gravel bikes need protective finishes due to frequent exposure to rough surfaces, so selecting Cerakote indicates a strategic alignment between product design and intended use, enhancing durability without sacrificing style.
– 🌍 **Bespoke 2024 as a Platform for Innovation:** Showcasing this bike and its innovative finish at Bespoke 2024 highlights the event’s role in introducing cutting-edge technologies and trends in the cycling industry. It illuminates how such gatherings are critical for industry players to share advancements, driving forward standards in bike manufacturing and finishing processes.
Hi, this is Josh from Beach Blade Tape and we are in Dresden, Germany at Bespoke 2024 to bring you this Bishikle Vano. Now, what I find particularly interesting about this bike is the paint. You will notice this unusual matte paint and this is called Cerakote. Now, Cerakote is similar to uh powder coating. It’s a ceramic coating that has its own unique style and texture to it and is quite resistant to scratches. In fact, that’s why it is the paint of choice here for the stickle because it is something that especially for gravel bikes that will see a lot of brush, a lot of rocks and things scratching up against it to be able to resist that. The cool thing about Cerakote is that you can also do hearts. That’s right. You will notice that this stem over here is painted with Cerakote, but there is no difference when you run your finger across the two different colors despite it having to be done in two separate passes. Also, when we look at the lightning bolt on top of here, you will also notice that it has been sandlasted along the lines. So just very slight texture along the sand blasting line.
