What are Condominium Territories?
Condominium Territories are areas which are jointly governed by two or more sovereign states under formal agreements.
Here are five examples of the many internationally recognized condominium territories
Pheasant Island which is 1.5-acre island in the Bidasoa River, alternating sovereignty every six months between France and Spain since the 1659 Treaty of the Pyrenees.
Lake Constance. The main part of this lake is considered a tripartite condominium between Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, though no official treaty defines the borders.
The Moselle River. Germany and Luxembourg share sovereignty over the river, its tributaries, and associated infrastructure, established by treaty in 1816.
Gulf of Fonseca a maritime condominium where the three countries, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua share control over parts of the gulf and its territorial sea.
Abyei Area (Sudan–South Sudan). A disputed region administered jointly by Sudan and South Sudan under the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement.
