Yes, switching to mechanical brakes is a bad idea. Hydraulics are no more difficult to service, just different. Anyone who tells you that servicing them is difficult probably can’t service mechanicals, either. You’d essentially trade $100+ for a different service procedure, more regular maintenance, and much crappier brakes.
