The left chain is bought from a very reputable bike webshop, the right is also bought from a reputable store but not a “bike specialist”
The boxes look identical other than the print quality being a bit better on the left box. The chains look different, most notably the left is WH stamped and right UD, overall the right chain looks to be made better.
Is one of these a fake or are these like from different manufacturer plants or different batches or whatever?

I dunno but having worked in bike shops the packaging changes every 5 minutes
Never seen a UD stamp on hg 71 chains
Are they the same color blue? I can’t tell from the photo. But what I’ve noticed side-by-side with fakes is that the blue is not a match. This was from my personal experience with boxes side-by-side comparing fake SPD-SL cleats sourced from eBay (I was new to this at the time, okay! Don’t judge me) versus buying them from REI. Shimano uses a very specific blue.

They could both be fake, very difficult to tell these days. I only ever use KMC chains as i find them practically indestructible, especially with high torque mid-drive Ebikes.
