I have been slowly improving my bunny hop technique and last weekend got this video jumping over a log about 30 cm / 1 ft.
It would help to get some tips to improve.
Bike is a YT Capra weighting 16kg, which doesn’t make it easier.
How can I improve my bunny hop to go higher?

Squat down with your legs more before exploding upward. You’re basically just loading the rear suspension and unloading it.
I think you also want to shift further forward, you’re rolling off the back to get the front up, but then trying to pull the back end up.
Think of it more like a skateboard ollie than jumping about whilst stationary on a snowboard
Damn man you can already b-hop higher than the majority of mountain bikers.
I wonder — if you open the rebound dampers up all the way, would it be easier to pop? Like a pogo stick?
When I try to tune my bike, I start with wide open dampers and increase damping as needed. If I hit jump trails, I close the shock’s rebound dampers just enough so I don’t get bucked weird.
In my head, it seems like the less damping in general, the more efficient the bike will be. (I am not sure of the validity of this statement) Fast rebound returns to the trail quicker, and tends to carve rocky stuff better than a damp rig.
Everyone has their own theories. Every place has a different ideal tune. If I am riding smooth dh with jumps, there’s less emphasis on open dampers, for sure.
You got over the log well, btw! I would have “cheated” and blipped a little nollie tire tap because I’m lazy.
If you can manual that front tire higher before you pop you’ll go that high kinda thing.
Isn’t the height determined by how high you can get your front tire and the rowing motion?
Dude on 29″ wheels with FS, that’s a great hop. Be proud. You could MAYBE get a bit higher if you really muscle the bars up to your chest before sucking up your feet, but still you’re fine.
I can barely make it up a curb on my dually! I’d consider this hop endgame success for me! Well done.
Ur bunny hop looks rly good and I unfortunately don’t have advice for you. Just wanted to say that feature behind you looks awesome!
you just need something bigger to jump over.
a proper bunny hop is not done through just pumping into the fork and shock and then pulling.
think of it this way to get hight: manual hard and then load the rear and pop through with your legs and then level the bike mid air to the hight of the front wheel or push the front wheel even down and raise the rear. that way itll be much much higher.
Nice ups. One thing is that this isn’t really a majority bunny hop. You definitely do some of the movement, but it’s like 25% of the reason you’re in the air. The main reason you’ve got air is because you’re utilizing the suspension to spring you. It’s not bad and I’m not trying to criticize, but try learning on a hard tail type bike if you’ve got one available.
It looks like a really solid hip to me, minor tweaks to form and technique may help but I think maybe training for a touch more strength off the bike could translate really well here,
Down and back more my guy.
