Just want to show off this 1995 Muirwoods. I fancied building up a steel "fast" commuter from an old MTB, and to be honest I didn't realise just how good it was going to ride!
New (generic) wheels to take a Deore 1×10 11-46, with a Cues 42t chainset. V brake upgrade, new levers for a nice clean cockpit. Oh, and some Gusset Wharf bars for a bit of extra rise. 1.5" Marathon tyres.
It's so smooth, even on rough roads and with the tyres up at 65psi, but still feels lively and quick. We all know it already, but old 90s MTBs really do make excellent urban/road bikes! Aside from disc brakes, I'd struggle to buy a new bike this nice for under a grand!

Great looking bike, particularly like the bars
100% agree on struggling to find new bikes that ride as well as these old rigs without spending bigly. Plus wrenching on them is cathartic.
Your build is killer and your dog is too!
Your dog has a look of: “Oh sure, I lose a leg and YOU get the wheels?!”
Nice pic. Happy rollin’!
I like what you did with the color accents! nice bike. Also very nice dog, he looks very polite
That dog looks like a badass mothertrucker!
the purple accent is great looking
