Hi all, I need a little help! Im on a big biketour and I noticed this bulge on my rear tire. It’s not gigantic and I don’t feel it when I ride. Still, it looks problematic. It’s a tubeless surly 26×46 and its quite new (less than 3 months old, 2000km). Is there any way to fix this or do I need a new tire? I have to bike 1500km more so yeah, hope it’s not too big of a problem. Thank you!

Definitely replace immediately. Goose eggs like to fail at bad times.

**edit** especially if it’s a 26. 26 ain’t dead- you’ll find a new one around every corner. Inconvenience aside, it’s not worth the possible hospital bill if it chooses the absolute worst moment to go.

Since you’re touring right now, consider a way to reenforce that spot with something strong and flexible. I’ve always like Tyvek, lots of people use low denomination currency – there are a million options.

    Then replace the tire ASAP.

I’d much rather change it where/when I can rather than be stuck changing it out somewhere or have it fail while riding

It’s just happy to see you. And when it pops it’s gonna KOM all over the place.

For real tho, deflate and replace asap.

  5. The casing inside the tire is giving out. You need to replace this as soon as possible but if you absolutely can’t right now, since you’re in a tour, see if you can reinforce the inside of the tire. I would probably look for some sort of rubber strip (thicker than a tube, probably) and glue it in with some sort of vulcanizing glue (Any hardware store should have both items). Might even use a tube too instead of tubeless until it’s replaced just for extra insurance.

  6. Yeah it’s problematic.

On a tubed tire, I’d put a dollar bill or even something like the bag from a packet of crisps/chips inside there. Not sure what I’d do with tubeless, but maybe the same could work…
