Saw this bike on eBay and sent the guy a message, just to see if it was still available. I'm taller so finding vintage steel frames isn't exactly easy. Went today to pick it up and after chatting with him for a while he asked what I wanted to do with it and after that he said I could just have it.

Seat post is stuck, fork needs a full rebuild, and clearly has no other parts. BUT a few weeks earlier I came across a Marin frame with a Deore XT groupset for only 20€. Now it's time to mash everything together and ride away with a sweet new bike.

Debating about going full gravel grinder with it, but not sure if I want to dump a bunch of money into a free bike. Time will tell.

You simply must dump money into a free bike. It’s the only way. Great find! πŸ€™πŸ€™

Very happy for you. Post it again when you get it built up! With a horizontal top tube it might make a great “gravel grinder” as you say. I have a 1992 MTB with a horizontal top tube that, in all the key dimensions (chainstay length, headtube angle, reach), is just like my modern gravel bike (but with 26″ wheels ofc, so it’s a bit of a slog on long climbs but otherwise very capable).
