Note to self: bring a backup water filter whenever you go off grid, even if you don’t think you’ll need it. Our filter got clogged, but thanks to the kindness of strangers, we were able to get our water bottles filled when we were super remote

This is day two of us bike packing in the UK and today we experienced our first major challenge of the trip. After connecting up with the Great British Divide and riding some of the smoothest gravel, we went to go filter some water and discovered that our water purifier was clogged and it became virtually impossible to use. We usually bring a backup filter, but have never needed it in the past, so we didn’t bring one this time. And of course, this is when we actually needed it. Fortunately, we got our first bit of trail magic of the trip when someone offered to fill all of our water bottles. We were in a super remote area, so this was such a relief. After biking through the beautiful Forsenard Flows, we happened upon our first sighting of these shaggy Highland cows before finding a wild campsite tucked away on the side of the road. And that’s all for the day.
