I used to work at the Rei bike shop. This is as entry level as it gets. You will be wanted to upgrade to a new bike almost immediately. If you are very strapped for cash, go for it. If you can save a few hundred more, get a more aggressive hardtail with fox or rockshox suspension and 1x drivetrain.

While it’s not bad, that seems like a bike shop price not independent seller. I’d try to get it for 200-250. That bike is fine, but doesn’t have great components. IMO, it isn’t worth upgrading components because you’d spend another $500+ to do it, and you’d still have a heavy frame. That said, if you want a rideable machine, that bike would work.

You can go to REI and buy the exact same bike brand new for $4 more right now. It is the most budget of budget specs. It will get you on the trail but for $500 on marketplace I’d be looking for 1xX “mountain” drivetrain and a better fork and possibly a dropper.

I’d be surprised if you couldn’t go to an REI right now and get a better bike for a similar price

  5. I would say its a bit high for what it is. If you can get it for 250-300 its not bad but you will grow out of this bike quickly. For me its a pass.
