Been bike commuting about a year in Auckland, NZ. Rains a fair bit here including today. Best tips for stopping fast in the rain? Had a near miss today as some dude pulled out into bus lane I was biking in next to stationary traffic in peak hour.
Braked evenly I thought, but back wheel skidded, managed to regain my balance but gave me a fright. I have marathon plus schwalbe tyres and this bike with disk brakes https://www.evocycles.co.nz/Product/511832/silverback-scento-path-hd-blackwhite TIA

If the back wheel is skidding, the brake strength isn’t the issue.
For motorcycles, braking is recommended to be primarily front wheel, because that is where the pressure is. This is also true for bikes.
There is a lower maximum deceleration if the road is more slippery. Marathon plusses are certainly not the most slippery, but it’s a hard compound that grips less than softer tires.
It’s very hard to give tips about braking, as it’s mainly about feel and experience. Practice emergency stops under different conditions and adjust your speed accordingly.
