My coworker proposed to me to take part in a 100km cross-country in the mountains near where I live next month. I recently got into road cycling, but I don't know much about MTBs. I did a bit of research and looked for options in my area and this is what I've found so far.
General info:
- Budget: 750 – 800 euros
- Type of ride: cross country / marathon
- Level: beginner but there is a fair chance that I'll pick it up as a hobby if I like the event since I live in a mountainous area and there are many interesting trails
- I'm located in Europe
Options that I've found so far in my area that fit the budget:
- Cube Attention SLX – new – 750-800 euros at my LBS
- Trek Marlin 7 Gen 3 2023 – used – 600 euros
- GT Avalanche Expert XCM32 (not sure about the year) – used – 600 euros
There is also the option of getting something from Decathlon.
What do you guys think about these options? Any recommendations?

here is the comparison on 99 spokes, I couldn’t find the right model (I think) for the GT Avalanche, the ones on 99 spokes are 12 gears and this model is advertised as a 10 gears sram (?)
