If you get a train to Uphall station and you are a cyclist or keen walker/rambler. There are lots of paths linked to historic sites and just things of interest. The Union canal goes to Glasgow, you can cycle to Linlithgow, view the Palace there and end up at the Falkirk wheel. If you go East towards Edinburgh, you can cycle in to Fountain Bridge. The Union Canal used to go to Leith Docks. Lots to see out in the sticks!
