Which side of the tool is the one in the pic?

[The tutorial I found ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2tepy-g7NI)for this says that if that’s the 0.75 side and the tool doesn’t go through all the way, you’re fine. If it goes through all the way you’re very close to needing a new chain.

If the 1.00 side slides in, then you’re due for a new chain.

In general, I start thinking about replacing the chain when it gets to the .5 but before it hits .75 — unfortunately, the best way to see if the cogs are worn is to replace the chain and see if it skips. There’s also a tool that measures the cogs’ tooth wear.

  3. A 12-speed chain you don’t want to wear more than 0.5%. That tool doesn’t measure that level of wear, if it’s the same as the one I’ve got. Park Tool, Shimano do tools that will measure 0.5% wear. Other option is to measure it with a ruler.
