Been using this bike mainly for commuting but looking to start to use it more as a road bike. How could I improve it to get better performance. Any help appreciated

– swap tyres for faster rolling ones (continental, pirelli
– get some kool-stop pads
– have you tried clip pedals?
– get a full clean and regrease if you have it for more than an year
Apart from these, in my experience, upgrades will net very little change overall.

Honestly, I wouldn’t do anything. It looks great as it is.
Do some leisure miles on it over this summer, then think about either upgrading wheels or drivetrain later on unless you have a hole burning in your pocket. In which case go for it!
Only one minor point for me; commuting keep the wheel reflectors, leisure ditch them. This is more a safety issue rather than aesthetics. Defo ditch the cassette guard.

Performance wise the only thing is deep rim wheels.
Everything else is on your body: aero suit, helmet, even socks (Good aero socks make a bigger difference than upgrading to a new aero crit frame).
I would advise you to just start with the racing part, the bike is fine as is. You will definitely meet experienced people through the community who will give you tailored advice and might even have some used parts layong around.

If this will be your dedicated road bike, then I would recommend road pedals and fast rolling road tires. I could also recommend a nice wheelset, but I have trouble splurging on nice wheels knowing that a rim brake pad will be rubbing on them frequently. Also, remove the plastic disk on your cassette.

Better flats; I use the mtb style ones with screws to grab onto your shoes combined with the five ten or similar style mtb shoes so your normal ones don’t get ripped to shit. Marginal at best but it’ll also look a hell of a lot better than the plastic reflector ones you’ve got now.
