I’m new to bikepacking and I’m really excited to hit the road. I’ve decided on a Marin Nicasio and have found one in the right size for 300.
Unfortunately I’m new to bikes and I don’t know what to look for in terms of condition. What does everyone think of this bike? Is there anything I should clarify before buying other than checking for damage to frame, wheels, etc.
The seller is unsure of which year it is, can anyone advise on what year this paintjob was available?
Feel free to remove if I’ve posted in the wrong place.
Thanks!

Yes, seems worth it. 300 for this is honestly a super good deal.
Try Googling “Marin Nicasio Blue” and look in the image search portion. i see similar paint job with what looks like a steel fork from 2020 at least
I’d say yes but I’d be tempted to upgrade the brake calipers at some point to something like TRP stores.
I do like the steel frame and options to mount racks and 32h wheels, I don’t like that it probably would not accommodate wide tires (from what I see it is up to 35mm) and that it is built on Claris – 8 speed system would not allow to use a much larger cassette (out of mfg’s specifications) if you want to, probably it would be up to 11-40, then you would have to change the cranks et (nothing too bad but some extra expenditure).
If your plan is to carry lots of camping stuff, ride mostly on flat terrain and on relatively good roads, then definitely go for it. If you want to go fast with a lighter load and want to explore rough terrain, maybe get another bike – or just a second bike in addition to this one.
Don’t forget to check the rear derailleur hanger and, if bent, ask for a discount and immediately order a cheap replacement on Aliexpress.
Do you like it ? If yes, buy it
