I got this bike for free and took the rear wheel off to replace the tube. Having trouble getting the rear wheel back on now. It seems this screw is supposed to go into this nut, but it doesn't seem to thread right and if I put the nut behind the hole in the bike frame, it is up against the gears. Any help appreciated.

Do you have the rear wheel with the casette on the same side as your derailleur? I can’t see in this photo. But if not you are putting it back on backwards.
The washer piece that isn’t the nut. What side of the stay/dropout are you placing that on?
